Serrata Arbequina Review

Creamy ripe artichoke with a beautiful rich mouth feel, this organic Arbequina from Francisco Gomez is a truly delicious example of the cultivar. Because this arbequina is harvested so early, it has a lovely balanced flavour that is persistent and harmonious. Buttery with a hint of sweetness and fresh herbs, this oil is hardly bitter and has a warming lingering pungency.

Oil type : Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Certified organic olive oils use organically grown olives and meet organic production standards for their region. Extra virgin olive oil is the highest quality olive oil. By definition it must have some fruity flavor, zero defects, free fatty acid level below 0.8%, and be derived by cold extraction below 27°C ~ 80°F.

Cultivars : Arbequina

There are hundreds of olive tree varieties, each with its own distinct taste and aromas.

Intensity : Mild

Intensity correlates to the amount of bitterness and/or pungency experienced when consuming an extra virgin olive oil. An olive oil with little bitterness that creates little to no sensation in the back of the throat is considered mild. A very bitter olive oil that causes a slight burning or spicy sensation in the mouth and throat is robust. We rate intensity between 5 values: Mild, Medium, Medium Robust, Robust and Extreme.

Harvest Date : Fall 2021

As a fresh food product, properly stored olive oil should be consumed within 2 years from the time of harvest for best flavor. Harvest runs from October through January in Northern Hemisphere regions, and from April through July in Southern Hemisphere regions.

Review

Buttery and oh so creamy, this early harvest Francisco Gomez arbequina is a beautiful example of the cultivar. Picked before the olives start to turn pink. This is before version, they harvest at the end of September, or early October, weeks before a typical harvest would begin. This organic arbequina extra virgin olive oil is part of the Serrata lineup from Francesco Gomez. It has a mild-medium intensity and is bold, beautiful and well-balanced. Francisco Gomez is a very large 3,500-hectare grove with many varieties and is ultimately focused on quality over almost everything else.

This Francisco Gomez arbequina is delightful for baking. It’s delicious in pancakes, or even these carrot cake muffins and scones, it is a perfect butter substitute.
